Love orange beef or orange chicken from Chinese restaurants? Yeah, me too! What happens when you don’t have all the right ingredients for your craving? You make do! Or, that’s what I do. My mom, if nothing else, has taught me that cooking is very much an experiment at all times. Don’t have everything? Make do! Substitute your meats. Don’t have all the veggies? Substitute your veggies. Omit and change. Always.
So what happened when I really wanted orange beef or orange chicken, and I didn’t HAVE beef or chicken? I snagged my SO’s ground turkey, and I made an awesome “that’s what we had available” orange turkey meatballs. Normally, I’m not a ground turkey fan. I’m not really a turkey fan, truth be told, but these turned out great! They’re simple, and I love that you can make it more of a family activity with rolling the meatballs.
Healthier than either traditional takeout orange chicken or orange beef, these orange turkey meatballs take the cake in flavor as well!
